Core purpose

The Operations Superintendent will be responsible for the management of all operational matters along with assisting in technical coordination for vessel located in throughout the UK/Europe, working closely with the Technical Manager.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Work with the Fleet Operations Manager on coordination of vessels.

  • Coordinate Fleet Marine Engineers and their duties.

  • Assist the Technical Manager as required with organising dry docks and shipyards.

  • Arrange attendance where necessary of all external contractors required to provide inspection and certification of OEG vessels.

  • Conduct regular ship inspections with the assistance of company DPAs and Fleet Marine Engineers, to minimise downtime and ensure all vessels meet operational and safety standards.

  • Conduct vessel internal audits in line with the audit schedule set by Marine HSEQ Manager for ISM and ISO.

  • Conduct regular checks of the vessels planned maintenance highlighting anything that is overdue and ensuring this is communicated with the vessels and Fleet Marine Engineers.

  • Manage and implement the approved purchasing process to ensure completion within a timely manner and in line with the set budget.

  • Assist the Fleet Marine Operations Manager, and Technical Managers in monitoring vessel performance, and identifying where action is needed.

  • Work closely with the Compliance Supervisor in relation to HSEQ matters that require technical input.

  • Develop a strong safety culture, working closely with OEG’s Marine HSEQ department.

  • Work closely with the Fleet Marine Operations Manager in the continued improvement of the companies SMS and Marad Fleet Management System.

  • Manage training, development and appraisal of all vessel crew.

  • Travel throughout the UK, Europe & Asia. 

  • Assist DPAs in the monitoring of vessel certificates across the European fleet and organising class and flag inspections as required.

  • Work closely with OEG’s Marine HSEQ department in investigation reports as and when required.

QHSE responsibilities

To have a general understanding of the areas of our QHSE Management System and OEG’s QHSE aims and objectives that are relevant to the role.

Comply with the requirements of OEG Energy Group Policies and the responsibilities within the wider QHSE Management System.

Skills and experiences

  • Prior experience in vessel management and operations/technical. 

  • Working knowledge of marine machinery and systems.

  • Understanding of coding and commercial compliance.

  • Excellent IT skills.

  • Confident interpersonal communication skills are important as well as being a team player.

  • Strong organisation skills and the ability to think problems through logically.

  • A calm and professional manner.

  • A flexible and adaptable approach to work.

Qualifications

  • STCW OOW/EOOW unlimited or proven experience in vessel management and operations/technical.

  • All basic STCW certificates within the last 5 years.
