OEG is seeking a Structural Inspection Above Water (SIAW) Assistant Inspector to join the team on a fixed-term contract from March to August 2026. This role will provide support to the Inspector during structural inspections across the United Kingdom, Germany, and the Netherlands.

Core purpose

  • Work as part of a small offshore-based team, supporting the Inspector with structural inspections.

  • Assist with inspections using General Visual Inspections (GVI), Close Visual Inspections (CVI), Bolt Preload Inspections (Echobolt), and confined space drone inspections (ScoutDI).

  • Capture and record inspection data accurately in line with client engineer requests and the instructed work scope.

  • Understand and adhere to site-specific client RAMS and safe systems of work.

  • Perform inspections across various offshore work locations throughout the UK and Europe, including wind turbine generators (WTG’s) and offshore substations.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Assist with structural Main and Tower Piece (MP/TP) inspections of wind turbine generations at various offshore locations.

  • Ensure all Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) compliance procedures and documentation are followed accurately on site.

  • Act as a team member responsible for confined space rescue, following all confined space entry and emergency response procedures.

  • Ensure inspection data is accurately captured and reported using an iPad with client-supplied software (DIT).

  • Ensure the correct and appropriate use of all tooling and equipment in line with operational and safety procedures.

  • Carry out all activities in a safety-focused and conscientious manner, always prioritising personal and team safety.

  • Conduct toolbox talks and actively participate in inductions, safety briefings, and mobilisation meetings.

  • Perform straightforward, unsupervised inspections of new and ageing structures in accordance with established Task Procedures.

  • Perform and assist with various measurement techniques, ensuring accurate collection and recording of inspection data.

  • Report inspection findings clearly and accurately, using structural drawings and pictorial references.

  • Complete all client site-specific online inductions and electrical safety training.

  • Complete in-house, client provided task-related training to ensure competence in all assigned inspection and operational activities.

QHSE responsibilities

To have a general understanding of the areas of our QHSE Management System and OEG’s QHSE aims and objectives that are relevant to the role.

Skills and experiences

Essential:

  • Demonstratable experience and proven competence in a similar role, performing inspection, maintenance, or operational tasks to industry standard.

  • Experience in reporting inspection and operational data using IT systems.

  • Proven experience working safely in confined space working.

  • Work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues to achieve operational and inspection objectives.

  • Use initiative as required, making informed decisions and taking appropriate action to support safe and efficient operations.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, adapting to changing priorities and conditions while maintaining quality and safety standards.

  • Ability to make informed decisions in the absence of the Team Lead, ensuring continuity of operations and adherence to safety and procedural standards.

Desirable:

  • Experience in, or a strong interest in, the operation and maintenance of drones.

  • Basic IT skills, including familiarity with common software applications and the ability to record, report, and manage data efficiently.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Participate in refresher training and competence reassessments as required.

  • Hold a valid offshore medical certification – OEUK with Chester Step, achieving a score of Good or above.

  • Hold GWO Basic Safety Training certifications, including a minimum of 1 year experience on GWO WAH for working in German waters.

  • Hold GWO Enhanced First Aid certification.

  • Meet confined space requirements, with at least one of the following certifications:

    • City and Guilds 6150 Level 2 Award in Working in Medium Risk Confined Spaces.

    • DGUV Regulation 113 - 004/005 (1.5 Day Training).

    • Danish 2 Day Medium Risk Confined Space Course.

  • Possesses relevant inspection experience and qualifications, including but not limited to the following:

    • PCN level 2 - NDT technique, CSWIP (welding inspection personnel).

    • NACE level 2 (coating inspection) or similar level of qualification.

    • PCN level 2 - NDT technique, CSWIP (welding inspection personnel). 

  • Hold a full UK driving license.

Desirable:

  • Hold IOSH Working Safely certification, or equivalent.

  • Hold Get Up Safely (GUS) certification.
