Job role

OEG operates a fleet of windfarm support vessels ranging from 21 – 26m LOA and as a Mate you are to be considered as the Master's deputy and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the crew work effectively and follow safe working practices as defined in MRE procedures

  • Identifying potential hazards associated with vessel operations and advising the Master accordingly

  • Undertake ship handling activities offshore and entering/leaving port.

  • Instructing the crew on relevant procedures

  • Notifying the Master immediately of any defects which may detrimentally affect ship’s or environmental safety

  • Ensuring the clean and orderly condition of the bridge

  • Ensure maintenance and upkeep of the vessel including cleanliness and orderly condition of the crew's quarters, including washrooms, toilets, crew mess, etc

  • General maintenance and appearance of the hull, deck, machinery and structure

  • The efficient and economical handling of the vessel's stores and equipment

  • The requisition of stores

  • Loading, care in transit and discharging of cargo including fuel. The Mate will allocate duties in this connection to the crew where necessary. Prior to and during loading the Mate will ascertain the Master's requirements for the stowage of any deck cargo

  • To be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all LSA and fire-fighting equipment

  • Upkeep of records of all routine and unscheduled maintenance in accordance with requirements and MRE procedures within the planned maintenance system

  • The Mate will normally take on the role of Safety Officer on board

  • The Mate will be the officer in charge of the vessel in the absence of the Master

QHSE responsibilities

To have a general understanding of the areas of our QHSE Management System and OEG’s QHSE aims and objectives that are relevant to the role.

Comply with the requirements of OEG Energy Group Policies and the responsibilities within the wider QHSE Management System.

Skills and experiences

OEG are ideally looking for candidates who have experience on vessels >500gt, to be considered for this role, candidates should have the following as a minimum:

  • STCW - Officer of the Watch unlimited or Master 200 CoC, or UK CeC

  • Minimum 2 years-experience in a similar role

  • All relevant STCW certificates and Medical

  • Confident interpersonal communication skills are important as well as being a team player

  • Strong organisation skills and the ability to think problems through logically

  • A calm and professional manner

  • A flexible and adaptable approach to work
