Core purpose

The core purpose of a Yard Lead is to oversee the day-to-day supervision of yard technicians onsite, ensuring efficiency, profitability, and compliance with company standards.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • This job description is a basic explanation of the responsibilities, duties, and functions for the Yard Lead position. This description is subject to change at any time, depending on the requirements of the quality system and management’s needs.

  • Responsible for day-to-day supervision of slab technicians onsite.

  • Oversee the inspection process to ensure that all equipment, including tanks, CCUs, and other rental fleet products, meets company quality standards and customer specifications before shipment.

  • Perform the required assembly, inspections, or repair work according to a defined schedule in a safe, clean, and organized manner

  • Verify that all rental equipment is cleaned, maintained, and certified as ready for use prior to shipment.

  • Conduct operations and safety meetings every morning-Should happen prior to start of operations each morning and consist of instructing each person what they will be working on, what is priority and what tasks need to be completed during the day.

  • Drive production during the day-This requires a presence in the shop/yard much of the time during the day so that tasked targets stay on track and production continues throughout the day. May require the supervisor helping with certain aspects of production to complete priority tasks.

  • Paperwork-process delivery tickets, inspection form, etc. as completed by technicians.

  • Customer order finalization: Will be responsible for ALL finals on customer orders before shipping. This includes checking all paperwork for accuracy as well as verifying product being shipped is correct to paperwork (including certs for all product shipping).

  • Identify and report any damaged equipment, maintenance needs, or hazards within the yard to management.

  • Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material moving equipment.

  • Assist with the safe and proper loading and unloading of equipment from trucks and trailers, ensuring all securing methods are followed.

  • Train other Technicians as assigned by management in the features and use of company products

  • Drive compliance with ISO protocols-This includes the correct and proper use of stickers identifying areas such as, Received, Ready to Ship, NonConformance etc. for all equipment within the yard.

  • Communication/Ordering of supply’s-Maintain constant and open communication with the Purchasing Department as it pertains to ordering of supplies and deliveries.

  • Troubleshoot-equipment problems and provide technical support to management and customers as necessary to resolve issues.

  • Perform regular (monthly) inventory checks as directed by management.

  • Operate forklifts, cranes, and other material moving equipment.

  • Train Technicians as assigned by management in the features and use of company products as directed.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on production equipment as assigned by management

  • Perform housekeeping duties as necessary daily.

  • Follow all company rules and policies regarding the safety system, while onsite at the facility, or off-site conducting company business.

  • Have strong technical product knowledge, especially regarding equipment, such as cargo containing units (CCUs), tanks, slings, & any other company specific product lines

  • Have a strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving initiative in hydraulic and electrical equipment.

  • Be competent in reading and interpreting customer and industry specifications, and service manuals.

  • Be expected to effectively and professionally communicate with management, direct reports, and other co-workers in order to perform the duties of this position

  • Facilitate and support the development of system documents such as operating procedures and work instructions that are needed in the field operations area and support the implementation of such.

  • Report to management any system discrepancies or opportunities for improvement regarding in-house operations, which may provide continuous improvement to the system.

  • Be thoroughly familiar with, understand, and assist in the implementation of all the business policies of the company, in order to support and enhance the working environment.

  • Understand and perform the processes as described in the position’s written operating procedures and work instructions.

  • Conduct company business as directed by the company’s management and further develop the system in accordance with the company’s mission and quality objectives.

  • Travel as necessary to conduct company business and represent the company in matters pertaining to the system.

  • All other task which are asked or assigned to you during the day by

    Operations Management. 

QHSE responsibilities

To have a general understanding of the areas of our QHSE Management System and OEG’s QHSE aims and objectives that are relevant to the role.

Comply with the requirements of OEG Energy Group Policies and the responsibilities within the wider QHSE Management System.

Skills and experiences

  • Two to five years of practical experience serving as a Yard Lead, Shop Forman or Compliance Lead with product assembly and repair technician skills while supervising others and/or other similar experience

  • The minimum educational requirements for this position include a high school diploma or equivalent
