In June 2025, the OEG Training Centre in Liverpool proudly welcomed 11 RWE apprentices to complete the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) Basic Technical Training (BTT) course. This four-day programme formed a key part of their apprenticeship journey.

The entry-level BTT course is designed for individuals working on wind turbines, onshore or offshore, whether they’re new to the workforce, to the industry, or seeking to enhance their skills. It covers foundational knowledge in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, as well as bolt torque and tensioning. Participants learn to perform basic tasks under supervision and gain awareness of potential hazards.

Apprenticeships offer a dynamic pathway for emerging talent, blending hands-on learning with mentorship from seasoned professionals. OEG is proud to support RWE in developing its new recruits into confident, capable apprentices ready to thrive in the renewable energy sector. Training is central to OEG’s strategy, rooted in the belief that well-supported teams feel valued and supported as they grow. Skilled recruits become the backbone of a resilient, adaptable workforce, confident in asking questions, sharing ideas, and driving innovation and improvement.

Gary Paterson, Head of Training, commented,

“OEG’s commitment to safety excellence is vital to the ongoing success of our industry. At OEG Training Centre, our structured development programmes are delivered by an experienced and passionate team, offering benefits that extend well beyond the duration of the course.

Our training initiatives are key to building a culture of continuous improvement within the wind sector, equipping the workforce of tomorrow with the skills to succeed and empowering our customers meet future energy demands."
